Story behind the sketch (Part 7) - Dewan Tunku Canselor, 1974.

Dewan Tunku Canselor, UM. Pen and Ink, 16 cm x 12 cm.

This is a small sketch measuring 16 cm x 12 cm.  I did it to remember of my time at UM or University of Malaya while I was doing my Dip. Ed. or Diploma in Education.  I drew the sketch on 29th of May when the lectures were about to begin.  The sketch depicts the Dewan Tunku Canselor building at UM, an iconic building not far from the Faculty of Education.

. Earlier in April I had completed my final year studies at USM (Universiti Sains Malaysia) and obtained a Second Class (Upper) degree in Humanities, majoring in History.   As part of my professional training as a teacher I had to obtain a teaching certificate from UM.  Such a stand alone or separate course was not yet available at USM then.

Life at UM was very hectic and there were many lectures to be attended throughout the day.  Towards the end of the course I had to undertake teaching practice at a secondary school in Kuala Lumpur called SMKJ (Ing) Jalan San Peng.  I was awarded  the Diploma in Education certificate in June, 1975.
