Story behind the painting (Part 3)

On the 8th of July, 2009 I visited the Kuching Waterfront. At one row of old shophouses facing the river my eyes were caught by a bougainvillea climber that has scrambled up to the roof edge. I took pictures of the bougainvillea plant and the two shophouses it was hanging on to.  The actual painting was done at home the following day when the itch and the inspiration came suddenly.  The final water colour painting took 40 minutes to complete.

Kuching city is well endowed with old shophouses that were built during the White Rajah or Brooke's era (19th century) but able to stand the test of time. Their makeovers in modern splashes of colours are admirable giving the streets much needed lustre and appeal.
