Story behind the painting (Part 10) - Bintulu Plaza Hotel, 1990.
Bintulu Plaza Hotel, Batik on cotton, 55 cm x 65 cm, 1990. |
In 1990, the newly built 3-star hotel called Bintulu Plaza Hotel was about to be opened to the public. An official opening ceremony was to be held and the Chief Minister was to officiate the opening ceremony. The hotel General Manager approached me to do a batik piece of the hotel as gift to the Chief Minister.
In preparing to do the batik piece, I worked out a water colour sketch in order to have a general impression or study of the hotel. Based on the initial sketch, the painting in batik on cotton was completed in time for the official opening ceremony.
The completed work was bought by the hotel at the price of RM400 inclusive of framing.
Note: In 2021 the hotel changed owners and today is named "Margherita Plaza Hotel".
